50th Anniversary of the Mercury 7 2009 is a big year for NASA’s history. Following their 50th Anniversary last year they are celebrating the 50th Anniverssary of the Mercury 7. The Mercury 7 were the first 7 Astronauts(John Glenn, Alan Shepard, “Guss” Grissom, Scott Carpenter, Wally Schirra, Deke Slayton and Gordon Cooper) picked to fly on the Mercury missions(Deke Slayton actually flew on the Apollo mission). Later this summer NASA will be celebrating the 40th Anniversary of the first moon landings.
